Violent Storm Hits Mar del Plata Causing Severe Damage

This Friday, Mar del Plata was the victim of a violent storm with hail and wind that caused severe damage in various neighborhoods in the south of the city. Hailstones up to four centimeters in diameter destroyed cars, broke roofs, and toppled trees. The most affected neighborhoods were Bosque de Peralta Ramos, Rumencó, Jardín de Stella Maris, and Punta Mogotes, where residents captured striking images of the storm.

The hail fell heavily for several minutes, leaving a worrying toll of dented vehicles, broken windows, and damaged roofs. The National Meteorological Service (SMN) had issued alerts for storms and extreme heat. Another hot day is forecast for Saturday, with a maximum of 34°C and rain towards the evening.

Civil Defense received 150 calls in less than an hour and had to assist two families whose roof was blown off by the storm. In Bosque Peralta Ramos, a tree fell on two cars and high-tension wires, leaving several people trapped. The Special Risks team intervened to rescue them.

The storm arrived after a scorching day, with a maximum temperature of 36.6°C and a thermal sensation of 38°C. This Saturday, oppressive weather and rain are expected in Mar del Plata.
